What a printer profile sets up

A profile holds the settings that belong to the machine, not the print. It sets the build plate’s shape and size, and the bed types your printer has with their temperatures. It also holds the start and end G-code that heats, homes and tidies the machine. It also holds the motion limits your printer can safely reach, and extruder details like retraction. Pick the right profile and all of that is already correct, so a model slices and prints without guesswork.

Choosing your printer

On first run, or whenever you add a machine, you pick your printer by brand and model. That loads the matching profile, with the bed, G-code and limits for that machine. If your printer offers more than one nozzle size or plate, choose the one you actually have. Nozzle size changes line width and flow. Then set the bed type to match the plate on your machine, so the first-layer temperature is right.

If your printer is not listed

Not every machine has an official profile, but you have options. The most reliable is to start from a generic Marlin or Klipper profile for your firmware. Then set the bed size, start and end G-code, and motion limits by hand. Many printers also have community profiles you can import, which saves that work. Profiles from Bambu Studio and PrusaSlicer often import cleanly too, since the software shares their base. Check the first slice before a long print.

Tuning after setup

A profile gets you printing, and a little tuning makes prints better. Run the built-in calibration tests for your filament. Set up an adaptive bed mesh if your printer probes the bed, and confirm the bed type matches your plate. The configuration hub covers every other setting you might want to adjust.
