There are three kinds of build. The stable release is tested and reviewed before it goes public, so it is the right choice for everyday printing. The nightly build is compiled from the newest code and carries features that have not shipped yet, so it moves fast but can have bugs, which suits testers rather than daily use. The belt printer builds, marked with a belt tag, add experimental support for conveyor and infinite-Z printers, and you only want them if your machine actually has a belt. When in doubt, choose stable.
Windows
Windows offers installer and portable builds for x64 and ARM64. The installer sets Orca Slicer up with Start menu shortcuts and file associations, while the portable build is a zip you extract and run from any folder without installing. Pick x64 for most PCs, or ARM64 for a Windows on ARM device. To install, run the downloaded file and follow the wizard.
macOS
macOS has a single universal build that runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, so there is one file to choose. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Orca Slicer into your Applications folder. That is the whole install.
Linux
Linux has AppImage and Flatpak packages for x86_64 and aarch64 systems. The AppImage runs on most distributions with no installation, while the Flatpak integrates with your software centre. Pick x86_64 for a normal PC or aarch64 for an ARM device. To run an AppImage, make it executable with a quick chmod command in the terminal, then double-click it or run it.
Verify your download
Files served from the mirror list a SHA-256 checksum, a long code that acts as the file’s fingerprint. After downloading, compute the checksum of your file and compare it to the one shown here. If they match, the file is the exact official build and has not been altered. If no verified checksum is shown, the button points to the official GitHub release asset instead. On Windows you can use certutil in the command prompt, on macOS the shasum command, and on Linux sha256sum.
System requirements
It needs a 64-bit processor and at least 4 GB of memory, though 8 GB or more is better for large models and multi-plate projects. Windows requires DirectX 11 graphics, macOS uses Metal, and Linux needs OpenGL 3.3. Linux packages target Ubuntu 20.04 or a distribution with glibc 2.31 or later.
After you install
The first time you open it, a setup wizard walks you through choosing your region and your printer. Pick your machine so the right profile loads, which the printers page covers in more detail. From there, the guide takes you through your first slice and print.
